This site is operated in compliance with the Government of USA information privacy principles , a copy of which can be obtained on the Department of the Premier and Cabinet website.

This site collects and uses the following information from users:

  • The user's IP address,
  • the date and time of the visit to the site,
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded,
  • the previous website visited and
  • the type of browser used.
  • The site collects information about dogs, cats, their owners and breeders. Dogs and Cats Online will record if a dog or cat has been held by a council pound or animal shelter such as the Animal Welfare League or RSPCA.

Council officers and the Dog and Cat Management Board use the information in Dogs and Cats Online to fulfil their obligations pursuant to the Dog and Cat Management Act (the Act). This includes returning-home lost pets and investigating breaches of the Act.

Other service providers, such as veterinary surgeons, and microchip implanters have statutory obligations to add information into the system about procedures they perform. These users and their administrative staff may have limited ability to access records of owners and their dogs or cats, so that they can update their client’s records, as required by the legislation.

The Dog and Cat Management Board analyses statistical information but will not disclose your personal details to any third party, except as set out in this Privacy Policy, and as required or empowered under the Act, other Acts, the IPPs or a court of law.

No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities, except in the unlikely event of an investigation where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect our service provider's logs. This information is analysed to determine the site's usage statistics.

Information stored in the system may or may not be personal information for the purpose of the IPPs. Nonetheless, you consent to the use of this information for the purposes of the Act. The information is stored in a secure area of the site's system.

Other than as set out in this policy, your personal information will not be disclosed to a third party except in accordance with the IPPs.

Site administrators are required to protect and handle your personal information in accordance with the IPPs.

This site is responsible for the privacy and security of information while it is stored on or passing through this site.

Councils will have the ability to further restrict access to your information, including the suppression of your personal details. If you have concerns about privacy or the integrity of your data, you should discuss these with your council.
